Deputy Investigator

Under the general supervision of the Adult Sex Crimes Supervisor, the Deputy Investigator performs duties related to criminal investigations of sex crimes and related allegations. This includes filing charges, interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects, preparing detailed reports, managing a substantial caseload, subpoenaing medical records, testifying in court, executing arrest and search warrants, conducting surveillance, and assisting other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in conducting criminal investigations.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements :

  • Must be an Honorably Retired Peace Officer
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement, record management, or a related field
  • Must have an active TCOLE Peace Officer License
  • Two (2) years of patrol and / or criminal investigative experience with any law enforcement agency
  • Must possess an Intermediate Peace Officer License or higher
  • A two-year commitment to the Adult Special Crimes Section
  • Knowledge of Texas Penal Code
  • Proficient in the use of standard office software programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proficient in the use of Superion / RMS, JIMS, CAD, DIMS, and JOTS computer systems
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively manage a heavy caseload
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Preferences

Bilingual candidates are preferred.

This is a part-time temporary position that may end at any time based on the needs of the department. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Benefits : This is a part-time temporary position without benefits. Hours are based on the needs of the department, with a minimum of 20 hours per week and a maximum of 30 hours per week, possibly including weekends and holidays.
