Position Summary
The Switchgear Technician works with a team of builders and the Engineering / Design staff to produce quality electrical switchgear equipment. The Technician is responsible for assembling switchgear cabinets, subassemblies, panelboards, and systems following mechanical layout drawings, wiring diagrams, sample assemblies, and verbal instructions. The position requires aligning components in specified relationships using bolts, screws, and crimp terminals, connecting busbars and cables between components, installing breakers, drives, and other finished assemblies into enclosures.
Job Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED equivalent from an accredited institution required.
- 1-3 years of experience with wiring electricity and electronics preferred.
- Experience with blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and point-to-point drawings preferred.
- Dedicated, hardworking, focused, and detail-oriented.
- Enjoy teamwork, learning, variety, and hands-on work.
- Perform repetitive work while maintaining high quality standards.
- Good eye-hand coordination required.
- Great color vision and ability to identify wires by color.
- Hand dexterity important for assembling small parts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assemble switchgear cabinets, subassemblies, panelboards, and systems per mechanical layout drawings, wiring diagrams, sample assemblies, and / or verbal instructions.Use standard tools (drills, screwdrivers, torque wrenches) and specialized tools (hydraulic presses, cable strippers, power lug crimpers, wire marking machines) typical for industrial automation assembly.Learn the functionality of all common components and their proper use.Safely operate a variety of tools and machinery in assembly of products.Capable of utilizing highly automated equipment safely and efficiently.Maintain professional behavior and proper communication with internal and external contacts.Show understanding of details of assembly drawings.Comply with all safety work procedures.Other Job Functions
Complete required training classes and maintain all necessary safety certificates.Keep work area clean, organized, and hazard-free.Utilize Microsoft Office suite effectively.Work in a team environment.Manage time and follow directions.Respond to all company communications on scheduled workdays, clear voicemail regularly to keep mailbox from filling.Comply with all applicable Company safety requirements.Perform other duties as assigned.Work Conditions
Work shop environment following safety, housekeeping, and organizational policies.Stand for long periods and have significant physical stamina.Lift, push, pull, and move up to 60 pounds.Climb stairs, work at heights.Maintain regular and on-time attendance.
