Summary / Objective

The CNC machinist floater has the knowledge, skill and ability to set up and operate all machines in the machine shop. The CNC machinist floater sets up machines to specifications based on prints, loads parts and operates machines, cycles the machines and detects malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. The CNC machinist floater runs production lots, communicates with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment.

  • Set up, operate and trouble shoot all CNC machines.
  • Ability to operate and perform quality checks on all CNC machines.
  • Able to read and interpret engineered drawings and work instructions.
  • Perform all assigned CNC setups and operation, as well as required shop operations.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee. Keep waste low, minimal scrap, and account for all parts on each job.
  • Know and follow Operator Preventative Maintenance procedures. Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows safety procedures.
  • Regularly perform milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, sawing and sanding tasks.
  • Perform inspection of machined products, maintain quality, and document results.
  • Complete and maintain paperwork for all parts.
  • Run multiple machines simultaneously, based on cycle times.
  • Train new employees if requested by the Supervisor.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred Education and Experience

  • Two (2) years of CNC machining experience.
  • Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Hours of work for 1st shift are Monday through Friday, 7 : 00 a.m. to 3 : 30 p.m., 40 hours per week. Hours of work for 2nd shift are Monday through Friday, 3 : 30 p.m. to midnight, 40 hours per week. Overtime and working Saturdays may be required based on workload.
