JOB DESCRIPTION – Estimator

Department : Operations

Status : Regular, Full-time, FLSA Exempt

Location : Tempe AZ

Reports to : Estimating Manager

The Estimator is responsible for successful vetting, budgeting, and estimating complex projects. Successful Estimators will be able to accurately detail and price the necessary components for each project, as well as analyze the scope of projects, identify risks and / or opportunities, and comprehensively perform cost estimates for large-scale laboratory projects in preparation for bid deadlines. This position requires providing high-quality customer service to all Project Stakeholders, including the Sales Team, Manufacturers, and General Contractors.

• Perform comprehensive cost estimates of small to large-scale laboratory projects.
• Read and interpret construction documents (i.e., plans, specifications, addendum, schedules, additional supplemental documentation, etc.).
• Perform quantity takeoffs using takeoff Software.
• Identify the risks and / or opportunities of a project.
• Complete the identification and issuance of RFI (Request for Information) to pertinent General Contractors, Construction Managers, Architects, Lab Planners, etc.
• Complete the issuance of RFQ (Request for Quote) from pertinent vendors and subcontractors.
• Use Sage Estimating Software to build cost estimates.
• Research product prices to ensure optimal pricing.
• Communicate to all project stakeholders to ensure accuracy of the final estimate.
• Track and report progress across the portfolio of projects.
• Participate in training and mentoring of Junior Estimators.
• Represent MottLAB at client meetings, as necessary.
• Participate in strategy, scope, budget, and schedule decisions.
• Follow MottLAB protocol in data management, including daily preservation of project details on MottLAB server.
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
• Education : Prefer  a  bachelor’s degree in construction project management or a related field.
• Experience : At least 5 years total experience in Estimating or Construction Management, Mott Manufacturing OES experience preferred.
• Demonstrable ability to fluently read and interpret construction documents.
• Portfolio of large-scale cost estimates performed helpful.
• Experience with On Screen Takeoff and / or Bluebeam Takeoff and Sage Estimating.
• Commitment to exemplary customer service to internal and external customers.
• Able to work independently.
• Ability to effectively negotiate for the best product pricing.
• Willingness to proactively intervene as needed to ensure program deliverables are completed.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to ask for help when needed.
