Medical Assistant

Under the direction of an LVN / RN and / or licensed medical professional, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of patient care activities to assist medical providers and support the delivery of patient care in the medical office.
Qualifications :
License / Certification Required : Heartsaver AED Education Required : Completion of a Medical Assistant training program or proof of training under a licensed physician.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities For Rural Health Clinics and GME-Family Medicine Center : prefer bilingual in Spanish, need to be determined by hiring leader at time of job opening based on clinic needs.
Testing For Rural Health Clinics and GME-Family Medicine Center : when testing required, includes successful completion of the Language Resource Assistant (LRA) test at a Clinical level. LRA is a language assessment test that demonstrates written and oral interpretation / translation technique skills. Test will be administered if selected.
Department Specific Requirements For SRCC : prefer 1-2 years of experience.
Job Responsibilities :
Essential Prepares exam rooms for patient visit. Stocks and orders supplies as needed. Arranges for sterilization of instruments and makes sure equipment is clean and in good repair and in proper place before each patient visit. Escorts patients to exam rooms. May take and record vital signs. Makes sure all paperwork is completed. Assists with patient flow. Assists care givers with procedures and treatments as directed and allowed by scope of care practices. May be assigned to perform, label, and record venipuncture and capillary puncture according to written procedures. Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests. Delivers tests and obtains results. Enters appropriate information into medical record, adhering to medical record guidelines. Ensures that lab reports, X-rays and other information are in patient's records. May be required to obtain pre-certification for procedures. Assures correct coding for filling and forms are in proper place in record. May monitor and record quality checks for lab tests and equipment. Uses department computer systems to enter and obtain information / documentation. Maintains quality control and participates in performance improvement projects. Attends required meetings, and in-services. Provides instructions to patient as required. Distributes out-patient education materials as directed. Schedules patients for testing procedures. Conducts all aspects of patient problem follow-up in coordination with the medical provider. Answers telephone, refers calls, makes appointments, and provides appropriate information and referrals, as needed. May be assigned to transport patients.
Pay Range $20.00 -$30.00
