Equipment Operator II
The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk's citizens, businesses, and visitors, including the City's Street Network, Storm Water System and Waste Management and Recycling Systems. The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained.
The Division of Streets & Bridges strives to make vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout Norfolk pleasant and safe by repairing potholes, road repairs, broken sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. The Division is also responsible for grading shoulders and medians and responding to emergencies by removing ice, snow, and storm debris.
This Equipment Operator II position is in a Public Works Crew who performs permanent repairs and maintenance in the city's right of way. Types of repairs and maintenance are repairs made to sidewalks, curbs and gutters, roadways, bridges, overpasses and underpasses, and shoulders. This position performs maintenance and repairs throughout the entire city.
Department Hiring Salary Range : $41,231 to $47,415.65 (Additional $5,000 CDL Stipend having a Commercial Driver's License)
Essential functions include but are not limited to :
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Two years operating heavy equipment or successful completion of a City apprenticeship program.
Must possess valid Commercial Drivers License. Must provide a copy of Division of Motor Vehicles Driving driving record (obtained within last 30 days) during interview. Working Hours : Monday Friday 6 : 30 a.m. to 3 : 00 p.m.; 40 hours per week every week
