With a current footprint in Michigan and active expansion plans into nearby states, the company has scaled to 100+ professionals through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions. Backed by a strong capital partner, the business owns its equipment, materials, and logistics providing speed, control, and quality across every project.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a General Superintendent to lead our underground utilities and earthwork operations. This is a pivotal, high-impact role charged with standing up and developing multiple self-perform dirt and utility crews while advancing safety, quality, and productivity standards across projects in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. The right leader will leave a lasting legacy by building next-generation field leadership and increasing the company’s self-perform capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and mentor multiple site utility and excavation crews.
  • Oversee scheduling, trucking, and equipment utilization.
  • Drive field performance : productivity (footage / day, yield), quality, and zero-injury safety culture.
  • Partner with senior leadership on resource planning across regional operations.
  • Build team capacity and succession by coaching foremen and crew leads.
  • Leverage modern field technology and real-time job-costing tools for data-driven decision-making.

Requirements :

  • 10+ years of experience in underground utilities (storm, sewer, waterline) and mass grading / excavation, from project start to completion.
  • Hands-on operator experience with heavy earthmoving and utility equipment; respected as both a doer and a teacher.
  • Demonstrated success building and managing self-perform crews.
  • Comfortable with technology-driven operations and modern job tracking systems.
  • Forward-thinking leadership style; collaborative, safety-focused, and results-oriented.
  • Why Join?

  • Above-market compensation for superintendent-level roles, with rare employer-paid health coverage.
  • Impact mandate to expand in-house self-perform work, build crews, and create a long-term succession pipeline.
  • Full time employment : no risk of lay-off during the off season.
  • Tech-forward operations with real-time job visibility (not a paperwork-heavy environment).
  • True builder culture with full control of equipment, materials, and logistics.
  • This is a confidential search being conducted on behalf of the company.
