Sample Department Supervisor

Avery Dennison is seeking a Sample Department Supervisor to lead and direct their Sample Department team. This is a working supervisor role responsible for overseeing all daily operations while also providing hands-on support to ensure the highest standards of efficiency, quality, and customer service. The primary focus is on leading, coaching, and developing a team of coordinators; however, the individual is expected to spend up to 30-40% of their time engaged in departmental tasks, either backfilling for team members or directly supporting production and fulfillment activities to meet business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Train, mentor, and provide development opportunities for the Sample Department staff to attract, retain, and develop high-potential talent.
- Perform general management duties, exercising usual authority concerning staff performance appraisals, promotions, and terminations. Ensure the Global Performance Management System is up to date with annual goals and regular, timely feedback.
- Act as a team role model and change agent, modeling and promoting the Corporation's Code of Business Ethics and Values.
- Positively lead and influence team members to collaborate and achieve individual and business goals.
- Manage daily staffing and workflow, including attendance / vacation schedules, to ensure adequate coverage and accommodate anticipated work volume.
Operations & Continuous Improvement
Coordinate and supervise the daily activities of the team to ensure the timely and accurate fulfillment of all sample and literature requests.Oversee all inventory management strategies, including setting optimal stock levels, managing replenishment, and partnering with Product Managers to implement product changes and transitions.Champion customer needs by acting as the primary point of escalation for internal customer inquiries, investigating and resolving problems, and ensuring a high-quality, professional first impression of all outgoing materials.Identify and coordinate the implementation of new process improvements and initiatives, practicing and instilling a continuous improvement (ELS) mindset within the team.Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment by upholding and enforcing all safety policies (5S, PPE) and coordinating the training and maintenance for all department equipment (e.g., guillotine, log slitter, laminator).Partner with Sales and other departments to support selling strategies and proactively communicate any supply chain or fulfillment issues.Recommend corrective actions to sustain and improve order accuracy, quality, and overall departmental performance.Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field is preferred.5+ years of related experience in a fulfillment, warehouse, or production environment.1-2 years of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience is required.Strong understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office / Google Suite, and function-specific software (e.g., ERP / WMS, shipping platforms).Excellent customer service, written, and verbal communication skills.Possess strong leadership, mentoring, training, and project management skills.Knowledgeable of Customer Service / Fulfillment operations and a proven ability to drive process improvements.Experience with 5S or Lean principles is a significant plus.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status or other protected status.
