Day to Day :
As a Data Center Building Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and operating all building systems to ensure continuous uptime, including fire and life safety, HVAC, plumbing, electrical infrastructure, emergency backup systems, and hot water equipment. Your duties include monitoring and adjusting mechanical and electrical systems such as chillers, boilers, pumps, generators, and switchgear, while recording equipment readings and making necessary corrections. You’ll troubleshoot issues, manage work orders through CMMS software, coordinate with vendors, respond to customer tickets, and follow emergency escalation procedures. A strong understanding of the site layout is essential for managing incidents that could impact critical systems, and you’ll be expected to handle hazardous materials safely while keeping your workspace clean. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support facility operations.
Must Haves :
- 2+ years of experience in a data center or critical facility. Proven hands-on experience in high-stakes environments is essential for maintaining uptime and managing complex systems.
- Strong knowledge of building systems. Must be familiar with UPS systems, emergency generators, switchgear, HVAC, plumbing, and fire / life safety systems.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and work flexible schedules. Must be available for rotating shifts, holidays, and urgent site incidents to ensure 24 / 7 coverage.
- Physical capability to perform demanding tasks. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders up to 30 ft, and navigate rooftops and large campuses.
- Proficiency with CMMS software and basic computer tools. Must be comfortable using work order systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite for daily operations.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to document issues, coordinate with vendors, and communicate effectively with team members.
