Position Summary :
The Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily operations of utility construction crews. This includes managing underground and / or aerial installation of utility cable, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and compliance with project specifications and timelines.
Supervisory Responsibilities : Responsible for overseeing Laborers and Equipment Operators.
Key Responsibilities :
Crew Management and Supervision
- Lead, direct, and supervise crews performing underground and / or aerial fiber optic installation, splicing, and termination.
- Coordinate daily work assignments and delegate responsibilities.
- Train and mentor field staff on safety practices, construction methods, and company procedures.
- Conduct daily job briefings and toolbox talks.
Project Execution
Interpret construction prints, project plans, and work orders to ensure accurate execution.Plan and organize work to meet project deadlines and milestones.Operate and oversee the use of heavy equipment (excavators, plows, trenchers, boring machines, etc.).Ensure adherence to specifications including depth, slack loops, conduit sizing, and pole attachment standards.Safety & Compliance
Follow all OSHA, DOT and company safety guidelines.Identify and mitigate potential job site hazards.Use proper PPE and ensure crew adherence to safety protocols.Maintain detailed and accurate safety documentation.Quality Control and Reporting
Inspect completed work to ensure quality and compliance with standards.Document project progress through photos, reports, and daily logs.Report project status to supervisors and escalate issues as needed.Interface with inspectors, subcontractors, and utility representatives.Customer & Stakeholder Communication
Represent the company in a professional manner when interacting with clients, inspectors, and property owners.Coordinate with municipalities and utility companies for permits and inspections.Address complaints, questions, or concerns from the public or other stakeholders.Required Qualifications :
Education & Certification :
Valid Class A Driver’s License with clean driving record.Experience :
3+ years of experience in utility construction.1+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.Skills & Competencies :
Strong understanding of fiber optic construction methods and industry standards.Ability to read and interpret construction prints, utility maps, and as-builts.Knowledge of and commitment to safety best practices.Experience with project tracking software or mobile field apps.Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.Leadership and team-building skills.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.Basic computer skills (email, reporting, spreadsheets).Preferred Qualifications :
High School Diploma or GEDVocational school training or apprenticeshipOSHA 10 / 30Work Environment :
Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow.Exposure to dust, mud, insects, and loud equipment.Regularly exposed to construction hazards such as open trenches, moving equipment, and vehicular traffic.May require overtime or weekend work depending on project needs.Physical Requirements :

Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to endure the daily activity involved on the job site.Perform continuous physical labor for extended periods (8–12 hours per day).Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 80 pounds unassisted.Occasionally lift items over 80 pounds with assistance.Mobility and Flexibility
Stand, walk, and move over uneven terrain, construction sites, and confined areas for the majority of the workday.oBend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, twist, and crawl into trenches, under structures, or within tight enclosures.Climb ladders, steps, or equipment to access elevated or underground work zones.Must be able to drive or ride in a vehicle for up to 11 hours to travel to and from job sites.Manual Dexterity and Coordination
Use hand tools and power tools with precision and control.Repetitive motion tasks such as digging, raking, or using wrenches and pliers.Ability to work with small components such as fiber cable and splicing equipment.Visual and Auditory Requirements
Visual acuity sufficient to read labels, identify cables, and operate tools and vehicles.Color vision to distinguish wire or cable types.Hearing sufficient to recognize warning signals, equipment alarms, or instructions.Company Description
