A Brief Overview : Plans, directs and coordinates nursing department(s) to maintain standards of patient care of the patients seeking Infusion and / or Cancer Care. Responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to care of the hospital outpatient department patient. Assume day-to-day responsibility for process and performance improvement activities as they relate to nursing and ancillary personnel. Will assist the Director, in advising medical staff and administrators in matters related to nursing service. This position is also responsible for leading Cancer Center accreditation processes along with the aggregation and analysis of the department data. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Education Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required
Experience Qualifications
3 years Nursing experience. Required
1 year Supervising or managing others. Required
A3 and / or LEAN experience. Preferred
Nursing experience with focus being Oncolgoy and / or Hematology. Preferred
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge / understanding of the department standards related to the care of the acutely ill or injured patient. Demonstrated success in clinical practice and team building. (Required proficiency)
Ability to lead through influence in a complex system environment. (Required proficiency)
Good organizational skills and the ability to coordinate and delegate work assignments; to set priorities and accomplish a wide variety of tasks. (Required proficiency)
Knowledge of the administrative, professional and clinical organization of Stormont-Vail HealthCare. (Required proficiency)
Ability to work collaboratively with the Director and other department physicians and staff. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
What You Will Do
Coordinating patient care management across the continuum of care, including planning and implementing of clinical protocols / practice management guidelines, monitoring care of patients by making daily physician rounds.
Providing for inter-facility and regional professional staff development, participating in case review, standardizing practice guidelines, and directing community education and prevention programs for the patient's education.
Monitoring of outcomes and system issues related to quality of care delivery, developing quality filter, audits and case reviews, identify trends and sentinel events, and helping to outline remedial actions while maintaining confidentiality based on data analysis; determines effectiveness of interventions to meet desired outcomes with strong focus of accreditation processes.
Develops and implements performance improvement to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements; interprets regulatory requirements and recommends specific activities and resources required to support the strategy.
Managing, as appropriate the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the Department, serving as a liaison to administration, and representing the Department on various organizational and community committees to enhance and foster optimal Department care management.
Maintains staffing levels compatible with high quality, safe patient care delivery. Responsible for overseeing absence requests, vacancies, and the staffing schedule.
Serves as an internal resource to address and resolve any questions or issues of patient care.
Defines, establishes, and ensures compliance with all regulatory standards; assists Directors and staff in development of standards compliance.
Creates an environment in which staff contributes to decision making.
Accountable for the design and implementation of department policies and programs, which support the mission of the department and institution.
Demonstrates knowledge of the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act and follows the statutes and regulations therein.
Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and department activities in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act.
Stabilizing the complex network of many disciplines that work in concert to provide high-quality care, serving as an internal resource for staff in all departments, and acting as an extended liaison for the nursing agencies, the community, and the nation.
Being involved in research selection, analysis, and distribution of findings, and facilitating protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback, and analysis.
Responsible for sound fiscal management to include allocating resources, coordinating expenditures for equipment and supplies. Assisting the Director with creating / managing departmental operating and capital budget.
Travel Requirements
20% Travel between departments or clinics as necessary.
