JOB TITLE : Associate Producer
LOCATION : Phoenix, Arizona
The News Department at Univision Arizona is looking for a News Producer to join our team. The Associate Producer generates, plans, and develops ideas for newscasts. The position is also responsible for conceiving, writing, and preparing broadcast material including local and national stories, newsbreaks, teasers, headlines, and digital content.
Responsibilities
Lead and conduct the news meeting, generating story ideas, dispatching news crews and reporters.
Oversee the on-air look of news broadcasts to ensure it follows UTG and station policies.
Full command of the Spanish language both written and spoken is required.
Proofread rundown and copy for accuracy prior to going on the air.
In charge of content and creative flow of the assigned broadcast, including writing of teases / headlines, ordering of graphics. Oversees stories’ production.
Work with the Executive Producer and News Director as liaison between producer, photographers, and reporters in the field.
Story selection and assignment of stories to reporters and photographers.
Prepare newscast rundown (story selection and order) on iNews system for Morning newscasts.
Supervise writing and pre-production of each element of the newscast including all anchor-read stories and reporter full tracks, video editing and graphics.
Line produce – back timing – newscast while on the air.
Create and execute original stories for show development and execution of sweeps projects.
Possess leadership skills and be a team player, self-starter with solid news judgment and ethics.
Possess knowledge of all aspects of newsroom operations and electronic news-gathering (ENG) and general office equipment and computers.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Other duties as deemed necessary.
About You / Qualifications
Minimum of 6 months of experience as a News Producer.
Digital content creation experience.
Social media savvy.
Must be comfortable working in a lead capacity.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, type, edit, reach and sit for up to 8 hours.
Strong sense of journalistic ethics, excellent editorial judgment, and understanding of local, state and national current events.
Knowledge of the Latino community demographics in Arizona.
Report to the News Director. The role may require working across shifts to cover news events.
