About The Position

Description :

The position involves providing care on a medical oncology unit.

Experience in oncology is preferred but not required.

The staffing ratio goal is 1 : 4, but it can reach 1 : 5.

Weekend shifts will vary based on unit needs.

The scheduling process does not allow for set or blocked scheduling.

Staff can enter their self-schedule requests prior to finalizing the schedule.

The first week of orientation consists of day shifts.

During the second week, the staff will undergo on-unit orientation with a preceptor.

Patients primarily include adults and geriatrics with a variety of solid tumor cancers.

Common diagnoses encompass breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, and esophageal cancer.

The unit cares for patients throughout their cancer journey, from diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life care.

There is a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.

Staff will handle patients with true medical-surgical issues.

Interdisciplinary support is available from various services including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.

Special equipment utilized on the unit includes telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, and infusion pumps.

Candidates should be prepared to float to other medical-surgical oncology units.

Previous travel nursing experience is preferred.
