Job Title : Special Education Teacher (Maternity Leave Coverage)

Position Type : Temporary (Estimated 3 months, with possible extension)
Grade Levels : 1st – 3rd Grade
Caseload : 12–13 Students
Reports To : School Principal and Special Education Coordinator
Position Overview
Focused Staffing Group is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide maternity leave coverage. The ideal candidate will serve as the lead special education teacher responsible for supporting a caseload of approximately 12–13 students in grades 1 through 3. This role is essential in ensuring continuity of services, high-quality instruction, and compliance with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct instruction and support to students with disabilities in both resource and inclusive settings.
- Provide specialized academic instruction aligned with IEP goals.
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior plans as needed.
- Conduct progress monitoring and maintain up-to-date student records.
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers, related service providers, and school leadership.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and data review sessions.
- Support transitions, classroom routines, and differentiated instruction.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and school policies and timelines related to special education.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).Valid Louisiana teaching certification in Special Education or eligibility for certification.Prior experience with elementary-aged students, preferably in grades 1–3.Strong understanding of IEP development, implementation, and documentation.Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with families.Experience with inclusive education models and differentiated instructional strategies.Preferred Attributes
