Job Summary

The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) is the chief student affairs officer and reports directly to the President of Clayton State University and is a member of the President's Cabinet. The VPSA provides leadership and vision in administering a comprehensive range of programs and services related to campus programming and planning; assists in creating a campus culture that promotes the academic achievement and personal development of all students; assists with crisis response and institutional initiatives; advocates on behalf of students; and fosters collaborative relationships among students, faculty, and staff. The Vice President for Student Affairs must be a leader in social mobility for the students at Clayton State University.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership on major policy decisions and University initiatives.

  • Provides a vision and strategic direction for the student affairs division, aligning its programs with the university's overall goals.
  • Provide leadership on major policy decisions and initiatives affecting students and student-related matters.
  • Improve student engagement through technology and virtual platforms.
  • Improve student retention and graduation through data-informed collaborations / strategies.
  • Foster a positive campus culture that values student success and well-being.

Annual Social Mobility Summit .

  • In Collaboration with the University President, provide leadership for and oversight of the Annual Social Mobility Summit.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Division¿s strategic plan .

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the student affairs division strategic plan, ensuring congruence with the University Strategic Plan.
  • Serve as a lead / champion for the University Wellbeing component of the University Strategic Plan.
  • Drive student retention and progression while positioning Clayton State to be the #1 institution for Social Mobility in the State of Georgia.
  • Supervises the major departments within Student Affairs .

  • Responsible for managing the overall budget, accounting, and financial reporting of the Student Affairs Division and managing assigned institutional resources and assets.
  • Supervises the major departments within Student Affairs : Laker Life; Campus Information and Visitor Services, Care Center, Career and Professional Development; Community Belonging and Veterans Center; Community Standards; Dean of Students; Disability Services; Health and Wellness Center; Residence Life; Recreation and Wellness; Student Activities Center; and Student Care and Support.
  • Oversee the supervision of the Student Government Association, Greek organizations, and other student organizations.
  • Ensures compliance with USG and university policies and state and federal laws regarding Student Affairs.
  • Develops appropriate metrics and tracking mechanisms to measure overall division effectiveness and the effectiveness of individual programs.
  • Collaborates with all campus divisions .

  • Collaborates with all campus divisions and internal constituents to ensure the promotion of an environment that is supportive of student learning.
  • Support and enhance the University's efforts regarding social mobility.
  • Additionally, the Vice President for Student Affairs will work closely with Business and Operations to support a successful Residential Life and Housing Operations program.
  • Create partnerships .

  • Create partnerships to align the University with internal and external stakeholders and the community to support the student experience.

  • Required Qualifications

    Educational Requirements

  • Master¿s degree required; Doctorate preferred.
  • Required Experience

  • Minimum of seven years of senior-level experience in higher education.

  • Extensive knowledge of higher education and its current trends.
  • Extensive knowledge of the student affairs profession.

  • Must be able to interact with various constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, parents, community leaders, and Board of Regents staff.
  • Leadership and performance management of staff
  • Management of a complex state, student activity, and foundation budget
  • Ability to make important decisions with limited information.
  • Ability to conduct meetings, presentations, and workshops relating to various student affairs issues.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal employees and external agencies.
