Overview

The Electrical Engineering Project Manager with the Airfield Lighting team based in AVCON's Orlando, Florida office manages the full scope of work from proposal preparation through construction. Responsibilities include overseeing all technical aspects of airport Airfield Lighting projects, reviewing all documents for quality control and quality assurance, and coordinating engineers and sub-consultants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage airport Runway and Taxiway lighting systems, Approach Lighting, NAVAIDS, Weather Reporting Aids, High Mast Apron Lighting and / or Airfield Lighting Vault projects ensuring completeness and accuracy of design effort.
  • Complete design elements for project systems, components, or systems with other team members with clear and specified objectives involving conventional types of plans, surveys, investigations, structures, and / or equipment.
  • Prepare complete project documentation including plans, specifications, and engineer estimates and assemble and organize project data.
  • Evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to project assignments; formulate and solve problems.
  • Work on multiple moderate to large projects using time efficiently to stay within budget and timely delivery.
  • Develop proposals including bid documents, project reports, studies, and other documentation.
  • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments or projects.
  • Coordinate technical and administrative activities with other internal departments and disciplines participating in the project.
  • Ensure project engineering activities comply with firm and contract requirements and support overall project schedule, scope and budget.
  • Interpret contract specifications and resolve conflicts with contractor on such matters as interpretation of specifications, workmanship, quality of materials, and related matters.
  • Maintain list of project milestones and issues in progress.
  • Prepare monthly project status reports and change orders.
  • Participate in client / contractor meetings, and resolve client, engineering and management project issues.
  • Prepare project scopes, tasks, budgets, and schedules.

Business Development

  • Assist in marketing and business development pursuits.
  • Attend and participate in industry forums.
  • Identify potential clients.
  • Interact and collaborate with clients, officials, contractors, and other project team members.
  • Prepare scope and fee proposals for review.
  • Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
  • Required Knowledge, Ability, and Skills

  • Strong understanding of Federal / State funding and approval process.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up with assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • License Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Professional Engineer licensure with ability to obtain Florida licensure within six (6) months, required.
  • Ability to become licensed in multiple states, preferred.
  • Environment

    Work usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting. Site visits may occasionally take place in an outdoor environment. Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.

    Physical Requirements

    The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently sit for long periods of time, occasionally stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 40 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

    Tool and Personal Protective Equipment Requirements

    Candidate will be required to utilize proper personal protective equipment including but not limited to gloves, sleeves, leather protectors, hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses and shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, covers, helmets / hoods, and any additional tools required for the task at hand.
