Responsibilities
- Develop project specific budget projections (including sub-contracts), composition of narrative and assembly of all components of grant applications with the Principal Investigator (PI).
- Navigates the proposal submission and approval process.
- Manages, coordinates or administers deliverables on funded projects.
- Serves as direct support of faculty in the department with awarded contracts and grants.
- Monitors encumbrances, expenditures and account balances in coordination with supervisor and Research Accounting unit and Pl's.
- Serves as liaison between department Pl's and College of Medicine (COM) Research Accounting and Practice Plan units for contract and grant accounting and budget meetings, compiles statistical data as needed to monitor progress.
- Monitors the completion of deliverable reporting deadlines within the department and assists with the completion of contract reporting requirements.
- Engages in award set-up and project management activities and other activities as assigned.
- Manages development of grant and program / project reports.
- Develops new goals and provides each project with end of year assessments including recommendations for quality improvement.
- Analyzes data from internal and external partners for reporting purposes.
- Responsible for creating reach tables to demonstrate impact of research projects and develops evaluation methods.
- Develops action plans and facilitates communication with COM administrators and project collaborator.
- Manages administrative, financial, and compliance activities for assigned Pl's in the department.
- Makes decisions that directly affect the electronic personnel action forms (ePAF).
- Submits ePAFs on behalf of the department.
- Responsible for grant and program / project reports.
- Meets monthly with PI's assigned to provide budget, compliance, administrative status reports.
- Develops new goals and provides each project with end of year assessments including recommendations for quality improvement.
- Responsible for initiating staffing and time and labor functions for department grants.
- Stays apprised of changes in University and COM policies and procedures.
- Recommends and implements other strategic initiatives to enhance contracts and grants research development readiness and capacity, including but not limited to sponsored projects orientation and onboarding activities for new personnel eligible to apply for sponsored projects.
- Assists in the coordination of grant relinquishments and transfers for departing and arriving faculty.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four years of experience related to budget, financial and / or accounting services; or a high school diploma / equivalent and experience equal to eight years. (Note : post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)This position requires successful completion of the eSPEAR Certification , or ability to obtain the certification within 6 months of hire.Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles and practices to strategically align tasks and people with organizational goals and objectives.Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions.Knowledge of contract administration.Knowledge of federal, state, and private sources for contract and grant funds.Knowledge of the principles and practices of project planning, development, and evaluation.Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials.University Information
