- DECRIPTION Oakwood School is seeking a long-term substitute Mathematics teacher (grades 7-9) for the rest of the 2025-26 school year.
- This is a full-time position for the period from December 1 through June 15, with the possibility of continuation into the 2026-27 school year.
- The specific teaching assignment for the 25-26 school year will consist of two Accelerated Pre-Algebra classes (grade 7) and two Algebra 1 classes (grade 9).
- We are seeking candidates with years of experience teaching college-preparatory mathematics, using a variety of curricular resources.
We seek a candidate who can support the development of sound mathematical practices in an organized, student-centered, and encouraging classroom environment. REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred 3+ years of relevant teaching experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational skills Excellent interpersonal skills, including a high degree of cultural competency Dedication to the whole-person development of young people, including an enthusiasm for positive identity development and diversity, equity, and inclusion work Experience with, and commitment to, anti-bias practices in the classroom Proficient calculator skills with the TI-84 Plus series Proficient computer skills with Google Drive and Microsoft Windows office products KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Plans, prepares, and executes developmentally-supportive math lessons in accordance with Oakwood’s Math department learning outcomes; Collaborates with fellow Math teachers in designing and developing curriculum; Commitment to our DEIB values and goals as stated in our DEIB mission statement Maintains regular communication with student-support team members :
parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators and updates an organized assignment calendar and gradebook in Oakwood School’s learning management system; Serves in our Study Center twice a week to provide assistance to students; Constructively contributes to department and faculty meetings, as well as parent conferences; engages in regular communication with parents and administrators; and performs occasional supervisory duties. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following : stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.
