This role is part-time and in-person, with a schedule of Monday–Friday, 2 : 00 pm – 6 : 00 pm (days / shifts vary by site). The base pay range is $20.00 / hr - $25.00 / hr.
New York Edge is the largest provider of after-school and summer camp programs in New York City public schools. The organization delivers academic programs—including STEM, the arts, sports and wellness, and college access—to help 40,000 students develop leadership skills and succeed in school. Working parents rely on these programs for safe, enriching environments for their children.
Eligibility and Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Minimum of two years of instructing experience is required
- College credits and / or degrees are highly preferred
- Experience working with children and / or teens
- May be required to walk up and down stairs and lift or move objects / materials as needed
- Work is primarily within NYC Public Schools but may involve interaction with the community during trips or events
Responsibilities
Build strong relationships with studentsImplement an approved LEADERSHIP curriculumGuide peer discussions on relevant leadership topicsTeach or co-lead daily activities across areas such as STEM, visual arts, performing arts, literacy, leadership and character development, sports, health and wellness, business / entrepreneurship, math, media arts, journalism, botany, and urban agricultureEstablish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to studentsPrepare materials for daily activities and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needsCoordinate program events and assist with data input and reportingAdminister pre- and post-assessments and evaluations for student activitiesSupport the Curriculum and Instruction team and the Program Director with lesson design and safety proceduresQualifications
Demonstrated ability to lead activities with children and teensCreativity, excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skillsAbility to multitask and manage workflow in a fast-paced environmentAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff, school personnel, and parentsSensitive to social-emotional needs of students; self-starter with initiativeFlexibility, reliability, and sound judgmentOther duties as assignedAdditional Information
