CALTRANS HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

Overview

Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic position located in Alameda County. Permanent, full-time role within the Department of Transportation. Telework : In Office. Salary : $5,608.00 - $6,723.00 per month. Final Filing Date : 10 / 24 / 2025.

New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate range when applicable.

Responsibilities

• Construct, inspect, diagnose, repair, and service equipment used in the Department's fleet in shop and / or field environments.
• Complete various records and reports; use computer equipment for tasks.
• May assist in instructing or directing helpers, apprentices or other employees.
• Operate with proper safeguards, PPE, and responsible handling of materials, tools, and facilities.
• Work outside as needed and travel to field locations or highway maintenance stations; adapt to inclement weather.
• Interpret job assignments which may involve travel, rotation, shifts, or changing workdays.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements are listed in the Class Specification for CALTRANS HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC. A valid California Class C driver license is required.

Working Conditions

Position located at 1993 Marina Blvd., San Leandro, CA. In-office work with potential field assignments.
