Position Summary
We are seeking a creative and motivated Communications Intern to join our team. This role focuses on producing engaging multimedia content, supporting storytelling across digital platforms, and growing The Seattle Today's presence in the metropolitan area.
Weekly Duty & Responsibilities
As a Communications Intern, you'll work closely with our team in three core areas :
Content Creation :
Develop and capture engaging social media posts, stories, videos, and graphics that align with The Seattle Today's mission. Write captions, edit visuals, and manage content calendars.
Co-Editing & Production :
Collaborate on and assist with video editing, photography, and story preparation.
Community Engagement :
Help amplify stories across platforms, respond to comments or messages, and foster community connection.
Compensation & Time Commitment
Time Commitment :
Part-time, 5 hours per week
Location :
Hybrid (preparation and editing work remotely; interviews, videos, and photos in-person on Wednesdays and Thursdays at our downtown office or other news-related locations around the city)
10 weeks
$1,050 stipend
The ideal start date is September 12, 2025.
Required Qualifications
Strong alignment with The Seattle Today's mission to tell authentic local stories.
Proficiency in social media platforms, especially Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
Experience with video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or Canva).
Strong writing, speaking, and visual storytelling skills.
Comfort being on-camera and engaging with the public.
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience creating content for media, journalism, or nonprofit organizations.
Familiarity with strategies for growing online presence and engagement.
Interest in and / or pursuing a degree or career in communication, journalism, media, or marketing.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is passionate about media, communications, and storytelling and is eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic newsroom environment. This role is perfect for undergraduate students or recent graduates interested in media, communications, or local journalism. The candidate should be eager to build their portfolio, comfortable on-camera, and motivated to strengthen their media production skills while contributing to a mission-driven local newsroom.
