About the Role : Utility Substation Construction

Are you ready to start a hands-on career in the Utility industry? In the Substation Division at Terry's Electric , you'll be part of a skilled team dedicated to building and maintaining the electrical grid that powers homes, businesses, and critical facilities. This entry-level role is the first step to advancing into a rewarding career as a Substation Technician, or beyond.

You'll support substation crews and wireman in the construction, repair, and maintenance of Substations across Florida.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety for yourself and your team on every job
  • Assist in Substation Construction -building, repairing, and maintaining power distribution systems
  • Operate vehicles, tools, and equipment with care and professionalism
  • Inspect and maintain PPE and rubber goods for safe use
  • Help with setting poles
  • Assist in installing transformers, steel structures, insulators, and protective devices
  • Work with de-energized systems under supervision
  • Learn and apply rigging, hand-line, and knot-tying techniques
  • Support installation and removal of services and single-phase transformers

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience (preferred, but not required for entry-level)
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and safe work practices around electrical systems
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and work in a physically demanding environment
  • Strong hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and ability to distinguish colors
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Availability for nights, weekends, and extended travel when required

    • Preferred Skills

  • 5+ years of utility Substation or construction experience
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Familiarity with Fall Protection systems
  • CDL is a plus.
  • Ability work from ariel lifts and heights.
  • Prior knowledge of constructing vertical break and center break switches from 13kv to 500kv
  • Steel Erection, Steel framework installation, Reinforcing Steel Installation
  • Ability to work safely around Crane and Rigging activities.

    Physical Requirements

    This position requires frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 80 lbs., climbing, bending, and working in diverse outdoor conditions. You must be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around moving equipment. Noise levels and environmental conditions may vary depending on the job site.
