Position Overview :

The Recess Aide supports student safety, supervision, and positive behavior during outdoor and indoor recess. This person helps maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging play environment while reinforcing school expectations and encouraging positive peer interactions. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children and has a strong, calm command of student groups-able to balance warmth and authority while promoting respectful, positive behavior. This person must be dependable, fair, and confident in maintaining structure while keeping recess fun and engaging for all students.

Key Responsibilities :

Supervise students during recess, transitions, and lunch periods to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.

Maintain a confident, positive presence and clear command of student behavior.

Enforce playground and lunchroom rules calmly, consistently, and respectfully.

Address minor conflicts using restorative and supportive language.

Communicate with teachers or administration about any significant behavior or safety concerns.

Assist with lunchroom or indoor recess supervision as needed.

Help organize and maintain recess equipment and ensure play areas are clean and safe.

Foster a positive school environment by encouraging kindness, teamwork, and respect.

Qualifications :

High school diploma or equivalent (college coursework in education or child development preferred).

Experience working with children in a school, camp, or childcare setting is helpful.

Ability to maintain calm authority and positive command of groups of children.

Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Friendly, patient, and committed to supporting students' well-being.
