Mechanical Engineer Auxiliary Systems

Location : Sterling Heights, MI

Pay Rate : $3035 per hour

About the Role :

This position is part of the Auxiliary Systems Mechanical Engineering team, where you will work under the guidance of a senior engineer to design and release mechanical and fluid components and subsystems for military ground vehicles. The role applies core engineering principles to develop innovative solutions, support prototype and production builds, and ensure systems meet performance and reliability standards.

Areas of focus may include hydraulic actuation, pneumatics, automatic fire suppression, fuel systems, camera cleaning, LRU cooling distribution, winch and fairlead systems, as well as general mechanical applications such as shock / vibration isolation, equipment integration, seating, stowage, and driver controls.

Key Responsibilities :

Assist in the design and integration of fluid and distributed systems such as fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling, and fire suppression to meet program and customer specifications.

Support the development and integration of components into vehicle platforms ensuring compliance with safety, human factors, and environmental requirements.

Apply mechanical engineering principles related to materials, welding, and fabrication to develop robust and reliable mechanical components.

Perform design analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and drawing / model markups to support engineering changes.

Author material and shop work requests, track part delivery, and participate in integration reviews and fit checks.

Provide prototype, production, and sustainment support, including troubleshooting, corrective actions, and redesign as necessary.

Conduct and present failure analyses, design reviews, and technical reports to management and customers.

Collaborate across engineering functions to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to project timelines.

Travel up to 20% may be required to other facilities or military installations.

Qualifications :

Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (Electrical Engineering considered with relevant experience).

13 years of engineering experience required.

Background or coursework in fluid or distributed systems preferred.

Experience with NX or Creo; familiarity with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup a plus.

Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and fabrication processes.

Experience supporting prototype or production builds.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Must be able to work around and on military vehicles, and occasionally work evenings or weekends.

U.S. Citizenship may be required to obtain a security clearance.
