Job Summary
Join our Nutrition Services team at Corewell Health and make a difference in the lives of our patients and families by participating in all aspects of patient meal service. Responsibilities include answering phones in the call center, assembling patient trays, cleaning and sanitizing dishes and equipment, delivering and picking up meal trays, and managing stock. No experience required—fully trained and supported.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and maintain serving lines including dishes, silverware, hot and cold food items, condiments, and ensure all items are properly stored, refrigerated and dated.
- Serve food as directed, replenish items as needed, and disassemble and clean food stations after use by wiping counters, steam tables and warmers.
- Set up and operate the cash register station and cash handling equipment to ensure accurate collection of payments, count and balance the cash register, record totals, and deposit money to the appropriate location.
- Perform routine and heavy-duty cleaning such as washing, scraping, scouring, and rinsing pots, pans, utensils and other equipment. Load, operate and unload the dishwasher, check and store all clean equipment in an orderly fashion, clean major equipment such as ovens, grills, dish machine, steam tables, mixers, and transport refuse and / or other materials in large carts safely.
- Set up and deliver food carts to patients and other food delivery areas. Retrieve carts and return them to the dish room for cleaning. Strip patient and cafeteria trays and sort soiled equipment in preparation for cleaning.
- Work assigned station on the tray line, assembling patient trays in accordance to established standards meeting dietary requirements. Deliver trays to patients verifying room numbers, bed numbers, birth dates and patient names to ensure delivery to the correct patient.
- Routinely participate in selected quality monitoring activities such as taking and recording food, refrigeration, dish machine temperatures, and other related quality assurance activities. Assist with the care and maintenance of department facilities, equipment and supplies, reporting malfunctions to management.
