Student Intern - Controller Division

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has an exciting opportunity for an accounting or business student to join our team and work with our Controller Division. At the Nebraska Department of Transportation, we are responsible for the planning, development, design, construction, maintenance, and administration of the state highway system. Our goals include preserving the billions of dollars Nebraskans have invested in their state highway system, making the highways safe and efficient, and accomplishing this in a timely and cost-effective manner. Job Duties :

  • Perform indirect cost rate reviews / risk assessments of rates submitted by consultants, local public agencies, and Metropolitan Planning Organizations.
  • Perform reviews of railroad labor / equipment billing rate calculations and supporting documentation.
  • Perform final cost reviews / risk assessments of actual billings submitted by railroads, utilities, consultants, and local governmental units for reimbursement eligibility.
  • Participate in the 2 CFR 200 subrecipient audit monitoring process.
  • Support project closeout process, maintain Federal and Non-Federal closeout lists, reviewing / entering project data, and providing monthly metrics.
  • File, scan, and organize physical and digital project files
  • Maintain and update project finance procedures manual
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications : Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Student majoring in Accounting or Business Administration, or the equivalent, with at least 12 semester hours of accounting and auditing.
  • Governmental or compliance auditing experience would be helpful.
  • Other :

  • Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation is required.
  • Applicants must be at least a three fourths time student and be able to work at least 10 hours a week when classes are in session.
  • Temporary full-time employment may be available during scheduled school breaks.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • MS Excel Data Analysis, Pivot Tables, etc.
