Executive Director – Sutherlin Area Chamber of Commerce
Location : Sutherlin, Oregon
Compensation : $30–$35 / hour
Schedule : 30 hours / week (flexible; may include evenings / weekends)
Reports To : Chamber Board of Directors
Position Summary :
The Executive Director is the chief executive of the Sutherlin Area Chamber of Commerce, responsible for leading initiatives that support local businesses, promote economic development, and enhance tourism in the region. This part-time leadership role requires a strategic, community-focused individual who can manage operations, build partnerships, and position Sutherlin as a vibrant destination for visitors and residents alike.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the Chamber’s mission and tourism goals.
- Represent the Chamber in city council meetings, public forums, and regional tourism networks.
- Advocate for policies that support small businesses and sustainable tourism.
Tourism Development
Collaborate with city officials, local businesses, and regional tourism boards to promote Sutherlin as a travel destination.Create and distribute tourism materials (maps, guides, itineraries).Develop and market local attractions, events, and experiences.Seek grants and funding to support tourism-related initiatives.Membership & Community Engagement
Recruit and retain Chamber members through outreach and value-driven programming.Organize networking events, educational workshops, and promotional campaigns.Foster partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders.Operations & Administration
Oversee daily operations, including office management and volunteer coordination.Maintain accurate records, manage communications, and ensure compliance with Chamber policies.Prepare monthly reports and updates for the Board of Directors.Financial Management
Develop and manage the Chamber’s budget in collaboration with the Board Treasurer.Process invoices and assist the treasurer with financial reports.Identify and pursue funding opportunities through sponsorships, grants, and fundraising.Marketing & Communications
Manage the Chamber’s website, social media, and email newsletters.Promote member businesses, Chamber events, and tourism opportunities.Serve as the public face of the Chamber in media interviews and community events.Event Planning
Plan and execute local events such as business expos, ribbon cuttings, seasonal festivals, and tourism-focused activities.Coordinate logistics, vendors, volunteers, and promotional efforts.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Communications, Public Administration, Tourism, or related field.3+ years of leadership or nonprofit management experience.Strong communication, organizational, and financial management skills.Proficiency in office software, social media platforms, and basic accounting tools.Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.Preferred Attributes :
Familiarity with Sutherlin’s local economy, tourism assets, and rural community dynamics.Experience in tourism development, grant writing, or fundraising.Passion for community engagement and economic growth.Salary / Compensation : $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
