Position Summary

The VP of Underwriting / Credit Operations (RTL / DSCR) leads the underwriting and credit operations for CoreVest’s (RTL) and (DSCR) loan products. This strategic role is responsible for ensuring sound credit decisions, optimizing underwriting processes, and maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The VP partners with sales, risk, and operations teams drive business growth while managing risk and supporting Redwood Trust’s commitment to excellence and integrity.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Oversee all underwriting and credit operations for RTL and DSCR loan products, ensuring timely and accurate credit decisions.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve underwriting policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters and credit analysts, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with sales, risk, and operations teams to support business objectives and resolve complex credit issues.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify trends, and recommend strategies to mitigate risk and enhance profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize data analytics and technology to streamline underwriting processes and improve efficiency.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on underwriting performance, risk metrics, and operational improvements to executive leadership.

Required Experience, Skills, & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mortgage or commercial real estate underwriting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of RTL and DSCR loan products, credit analysis, and risk management.
  • Proven track record of managing underwriting teams and driving operational excellence.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with underwriting technology platforms and data analytics.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training, or industry events.
  • A reasonable estimate of the total compensation range for this role is $150,000-$200,000. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
