Nicor Facilities Maintenance Position
The purpose of this position is to ensure that Nicor buildings and facilities equipment are maintained and repaired in a safe, reliable, economical, and serviceable manner. This is a union position focused on basic preventive and corrective maintenance of company buildings and equipment.
Job Responsibilities
Functional Expertise :
- Performs basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work. Some examples are assessing and fixing of minor leaks in a sinks and toilets, replacing lights, and replacing carpet and ceiling tiles.
- Performs meeting room set ups. This includes moving of chairs and tables in the conference rooms.
- Dispose of recycling from the Remittance Department.
- Inspect Facilities fleet vehicles at HQ. Will clean and fuel, as necessary.
- Delivery of items utilizing company box truck. When needed :
- Assisting with furniture and cube reconfigurations.
- Would be required to rectify any other tasks or requests that may come through. Examples could be moving boxes, loading and unloading the occasional trailer or vehicle, and moving items with a forklift.
- Work with and escort contractors with all types of repairs and inspections.
- Accompanying and training with building technician.
Business Acumen :
Identifies and informs supervisor and other qualified facilities personnel on building and equipment preventive / corrective maintenance issues outside of their qualifications to ensure completion in a safe, reliable, and timely manner.Organizes and effectively manages daily work assignments; and accurately records time, material and service charges in accordance with company policies, procedures and defined facilities work practices.Identifies and informs co-workers, peers, and management personnel of unsafe conditions and / or work practices to ensure compliance to company policies and to mitigate personnel injuries or safety-related incidents.Engagement :
Engages with facilities, business unit and department personnel in a courteous manner and ensures transparency of facilities maintenance related activities.Engages with third party service providers, training, and safety to ensure overall effectiveness in facilities maintenance and training related activities.Collaborates with facilities, other departments, and safety personnel / committees to ensure a safe work environment.Driving Results :
Executes responsibilities timely and accurately to ensure overall facilities equipment availability, performance, and reliability.Identifies and initiates facilities process, service and material improvements focused on enhancing departmental efficiencies and cost effectiveness.Provides timely and accurate information and system updates on pending building and maintenance activities to ensure efficient and effective resource scheduling.Qualifications
Education, Certifications / Licenses :
Required :
Driver's License
Needs to meet job requirements by 120-day performance reviewPreferred : Trade certifications
Basic understanding of HVAC, cooling, and alarm systems.
Related Work Experience :
Required : 1-2 years' experience in facilities work, including basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
Specific Skills & Knowledge :
Required :
Reading, writing and computer / system skills sufficient to enter time, material, and other required record keeping information into company supported systems.Ability to obtain and retain company required driving, safety, and compliance training / certifications.Working Conditions / Physical Requirements :
The position works in a building environment.
