GENERAL PURPOSE
Collect, preserve, and present Mapleton's history to people of all ages at Historic Towne Square.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Parks & Recreation Director or Recreation Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May provide general supervision to various part-time, seasonal, and volunteer personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administrative Support : Assists with various short / long-range planning, organizing, and scheduling of Towne Square programs, tours, and events.
Fiscal and Budget Administration : Manages annual budget; develops annual recommendations for budget requirements; Looks for and applies for grants, etc.
Day-To-Day Operations :
- Produce one social media post a week that will draw interest to Towne Square.
- Refine and streamline the basic tours given.
- Create a Tour Survey and distribute it to tour takers.
- Work with the Recreation Manager to offer tours to school classes.
- Coordinate the giving of tours upon request (lead by you or trained volunteers).
- Track Museum Attendance.
- Create additional media for people to consume at the museum (pamphlets, videos, kids activities, etc.).
- Manage Towne Square Keys.
- Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to have Towne Square open to the public for 3 hours each Tuesday (or another consistent day of the week).
- Create basic cleaning assignments for volunteers when they are at the museum and are not giving tours.
- When necessary, clean Towne Square.
- Change out displays twice a year.
- Work with the Special Events Coordinator to include Towne Square at special events (Lights On, Scarecrow, Pioneer Days, etc.).
- Work with the Special Events Coordinator to create a Towne Square Specific Special Event.
- Monitor the condition of Towne Square's buildings and report any maintenance that is needed to the Parks Manager.
- Research and decide on what catalog system we should use.
- Find, curate, and document new historic pieces into our catalog system.
- Seek out and add displays focused on Native American History in Mapleton.
- Decorate / coordinate the decoration of Towne Square for Independence Day, Pioneer Days, and Christmas (other holidays as needed).
- Provide material for the monthly city newsletter.
- Be the face of Mapleton City in Towne Square.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience : High school graduate with (2) years of experience in various fields including but not limited to museums, history, professional writing, anthropology, communications, parks and recreation, or public relations.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :Excellent writing and research skills.Able to create intriguing Social Media posts.Able to express oneself well vocally.High attention to detail.High levels of customer service skills.Skill in the art of diplomacy and creative problem-solving.WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and creative problem solving. Periodic travel required in normal course of job performance.
