Research Senior Technician to assist and support scientific investigation to study the activation of antiviral and antiproliferative innate immune signaling cascades and the transcriptional and post-transcriptional control of gene expression as directed in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular biology (cloning, PCR, Western blot), cell culture, and biochemistry techniques; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures on lab animals including surgical procedures and / or administration of drugs; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological / health science research is required. Experience in a biological / health research capacity is required. Experience with molecular biology (cloning, PCR, Western blot), cell culture, and biochemistry techniques desired. Experience with animal handling and husbandry desired.
