We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and responsible Process Engineer to lead the execution of small capital projects and drive continual improvement initiatives at a manufacturing site. This role is pivotal in advancing operational excellence, optimizing processes, and delivering measurable improvements in safety, quality, and efficiency. The successful candidate will leverage deep technical expertise, data-driven insights, and collaborative leadership to solve complex challenges and influence cross-functional teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, optimization, and implementation of recovery processes for nickel, cobalt, lithium, and other materials from Li-Ion batteries
  • Develop and execute small capital projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring alignment with site objectives and best practices
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing LEAN, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to enhance process reliability, safety, and performance
  • Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of process issues
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Commercial, and HSE teams to ensure seamless integration of new technologies and products, and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements
  • Facilitate Management of Change (MOC), incident investigations, and corrective action implementation
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOP), commissioning protocols, and maintenance plans for new equipment
  • Create and monitor operational KPI dashboards to identify and drive improvement opportunities
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and cross-functional team members
  • Represent the site in customer-facing discussions regarding technical requirements and new product introductions
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, leading projects and improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and delivering results in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in working with Li-Ion battery processes is highly desirable
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities
  • High level of accountability, resourcefulness, personal drive, and resiliency
  • EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Electrical Engineering
  • LEAN / Six Sigma certification preferred but not required
  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
