Position Summary

Mesabi Metallics is looking for a Safety Technician with to support the implementation and enforcement of workplace safety programs. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of MSHA standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing incidents, and promoting a culture of safety across all site operations.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Technician will be responsible for the following :

Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and hazard assessments across surface and / or underground mining operations.
Enforce compliance with MSHA and company-specific health and safety regulations.
Identify, report, and assist in correcting unsafe acts, conditions, and practices.
Support incident investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing personnel, and preparing detailed reports.
Maintain safety documentation, including training records, inspection checklists, and incident logs.
Deliver safety training sessions and toolbox talks on relevant topics such as PPE, confined space entry, working at heights, and equipment operation.
Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements.
Participate in emergency preparedness drills and support response activities.
Collaborate with site supervisors and department heads to implement risk mitigation strategies.

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Safety Technician or similar role within the mining industry.

Strong knowledge of MSHA.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience in a safety-related field preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in both mining and plant environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.

Capability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, inspecting equipment, and navigating uneven terrain.

Salary

$32.00 - $36.00 per hour.
