Director, Procurement And Supply Chain Optimization

The Director, Procurement And Supply Chain Optimization is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of purchasing and supply chain activities across Silgan Plastics. This individual will lead the development and execution of procurement strategies that ensure the efficient sourcing of raw materials, products, and services while driving cost savings, supplier performance, and operational excellence. The role requires strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a deep understanding of supply chain dynamics to support the company's growth and profitability.

Major Responsibilities :

  • Provides strategic thought leadership and develops and implements sourcing strategies that leverages scale, maximizes supplier relationships, minimizes risks, and drives business value.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders and works cross-functionally in developing and executing sourcing strategies to effectively optimize buying synergies, supplier relationships, cost reduction opportunities, inventory optimization and to achieve company working capital goals.
  • Manages and develops strategic supplier relationships including identifying potential suppliers, assessing their capabilities, and managing the procurement process
  • Directly conducts negotiations, sourcing, contract process, tactical and transactional activity for the procurement of key raw materials across 27 production facilities and three business units.
  • Develops and maintains resin market intelligence and analysis to support strategic buying recommendations.
  • Regularly summarizes and presents resin market and pricing forecast data to internal and external stakeholders in support of company's budgetary, financial short- and long-term forecasting needs.
  • Develops policies and procedures for purchasing.
  • Oversees material procurement activities, including ordering materials from suppliers and reviewing invoices for accuracy to agreed-upon terms.
  • Reviews bids from potential suppliers of goods and services, and making purchase decisions based on price, quality, and other factors.
  • Qualifies suppliers based on their ability to meet the needs of the business and monitors existing suppliers to ensure that they continue to provide high-quality products or services.
  • Reviews supplier contracts to ensure reasonable and appropriate terms and conditions for the Company.
  • Monitors market trends and developments to identify additional opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Reviews purchase orders to make sure that orders are complete and accurate.

Team Management And Development :

  • Manage a team of supply chain category managers responsible for vendor relationships and sourcing activities providing guidance and mentorship as needed..
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Set clear goals and performance metrics for the team and conduct regular evaluations.
  • Authority Level (If Applicable) : Director level manager.

    Education :

    Required : Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years of finance leadership experience within a manufacturing, procurement and / or supply chain operations environment.
  • 10 years' experience in purchasing and sourcing management.
  • Preferred :

  • 5 years' experience in procuring and contracting plastic resins.
  • Experience in packaging and capital equipment procurement.
  • Experience And Skills :

  • Strong business acumen and strategic orientation. Must understand and deeply appreciate the connection between sales, marketing, and operations, and be capable of driving results across functional boundaries.
  • Experience working with and advising senior management on financial and business strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage people.
  • Hands-on approach to business and a willingness to get involved in the financial details to shape data into meaningful operational analysis.
  • Ability to think creatively to find new ways to improve operations and to grow the business profitably.
  • Good working knowledge of general accounting and internal controls.
  • Exceptional presentation skills are necessary.
