Maintenance Technician - Carpentry - Center City - Full Time
The primary responsibility of all Facilities Staff is to work as a team to provide a safe, attractive, functional and efficient facility within which the campus community may grow and prosper. It should be understood that all plant employees, will at times, be assigned other duties within their capability aside from their designated area of expertise. This position works within the trade scope of carpentry and completes general repairs and inspections in areas as designated.
Essential Functions :
- Work within the carpentry trade : Each carpenter is responsible for a portion of campus; Chronologically works through the daily repair request as designated by the office; Installs shelving, casework, bulletin boards, plaques, repairs doors, locks, checks windows, shades, blinds, floors; Estimates materials needed and purchase through the office;
- Cooperates in fabricating items requested on campus; Constructs / repairs walls, replaces windows and doors as requested; Completes inspections / PM's and informs office of needed repairs, malfunctioning equipment or items in disrepair; Completes radio dispatched priority repairs as assigned;
- Cooperates with other University employees and related contractors to achieve the best possible results; Understands Philadelphia and other relevant codes to assure compliance; Completes roofing repairs as needed; capable of shingle, flashing, and slate replacement as well as cold coating of BUR (built up roof);
- Maintains lockers and storage areas in a safe manor protecting against fire; Lubricates furniture, doors, etc.; Aware of location of water and heating controls, electrical switches, fire and smoke detection equipment, main gas and water valves, etc.; Submits orders for materials through department procedures;
- General Maintenance : Provides work order documentation feedback on trade and non-trade related tasks; Maintains a professional appearance; Maintains a positive customer attitude; University function support (special set-ups etc.); Snow removal activity considered essential personnel; Other duties as assigned;
- Maintains a work vehicle for use on campus for which a monthly stipend is remitted. Must provide your own hand tools necessary for carpentry work.

Repair work associated with : Roofing, Relamping, Painting, Carpentry, and CustodialWorks five 8-hour shifts. Schedule is as determined by supervision. Shift work is possible. Available for overtime and emergency calls. Lifting of heavy equipment and materials is required; however, a single person should not exceed 80 pounds. Purchase of Equipment and / or products must be authorized by director and coordinated through department procurement procedures.Considered "Essential Personnel"Work Shift : Rotating
