Responsibilities Work in a 32-bed Neuro ICU within a Level 1 trauma hospital Patient population includes those with neurological conditions such as cranial surgeries, brain tumor removals, ablations, and complicated spine surgeries Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 2 in the ICU and 1 : 4 when floated to telemetry units Required to float between all ICU and telemetry units as needed Uses Phillips telemetry monitors and ventilators Cerner is the EMR system used 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), with four weekends required per four weeks Expected to work two out of four major holidays as part of core staff rotation Floor-specific orientation includes two shifts on the unit Responsible for comprehensive neuro critical care nursing including frequent neuro assessments and ICP monitoring Required to complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, with a pass / fail outcome May be placed on standby for a scheduled shift as needed First to float if floating is required RT and pharmacy support available 24 / 7 Charge nurse on unit does not take patients Dress code for Neuro ICU requires steel grey scrubs Natural hair color and no facial piercings required; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing Holiday coverage is determined by core staff rotation Candidates must have their own vehicle if part of a travel team Returning travelers must not have worked for the health system within the past 12 months Requirements Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration Current BLS and ACLS certifications required Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in a hospital with 450 beds Level 1 trauma experience required Experience with EVD and ICP monitoring required Travel nursing experience of 3-6 months required Must pass a dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to acceptance with two attempts permitted Must pass a sterile technique skills exam on day one of orientation Strong neuro assessment skills required Candidates who have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility as verified by driver’s license Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-611951.
