Position Summary

Sacred Heart University Library seeks an Electronic Resources Librarian to manage the entire lifecycle of digital content, from acquisition, licensing, activation, and maintenance to assessment and renewal. This key position will also handle vendor relations and contract negotiations, ensuring cost-effective and user-friendly terms.

  • Oversee the electronic resource life cycle, including licensing, purchase, onboarding, ongoing administration, access troubleshooting, and renewals.
  • Develop and maintain strong, ongoing vendor and publisher relationships, serving as the university’s primary liaison for electronic content.
  • Lead vendor negotiations, contract drafting, and renewal discussions, ensuring terms support favorable issues such as privacy and licensing flexibility.
  • Manage library digital and material resource budgets, overseeing acquisition of multiple formats, including print books, e-books, streaming media, databases, and e-journals.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of key library software systems (Springshare, EBSCO HLM, EBSCONET, Koha, and OCLC WorldShare) and provides troubleshooting and workflow support as needed.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret usage statistics; prepare reports to guide collection strategy and budget decisions.
  • Act as liaison librarian for designated subject areas, partnering with faculty and library stakeholders to ensure resources support curricular and research priorities.
  • Collaborate with library liaisons as well as faculty partners to ensure library collections align with current curriculums in wide-ranging disciplines.
  • Contribute to library-wide initiatives and governance by participating in committees and professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Attributes

Required Skills :

  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing electronic resources in an academic library environment, including licensing, systems, and vendor relations.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to synthesize and present complex technical, access, and usage information clearly to varied audiences.
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Experience with EBSCONET, Koha, OCLC WorldShare, and related platforms.
  • Background in data analysis tools (e.g., spreadsheets, ERMS reporting) to derive actionable insights.
  • A demonstrated commitment to advancing a welcoming and equitable community that supports the success of all students.
