Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Warsaw, VA

Full-Time Position

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities by promoting choice, personal growth, and independence in their community. Transitions offers paid training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance and support to participants in activities of daily living. Teaches appropriate skills and involves participants in meaningful and valued activities. Implements individual support plans as written.
  • Demonstrates the importance of community involvement, social interaction, and maintaining relationships. Develops and facilitates community connections and relationships. Provides opportunities for activities in various settings and transportation as needed
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all personal information concerning participants. Treats all participants, families, coworkers, and supervisors with dignity and respect
  • Maintains an environment that is healthy, safe, peaceful, and comfortable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Have experience and training in the field of developmental disabilities and behavior management
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving history
  • Ability to pass criminal history and personal background checks
  • Requires basic language, written and computer skills, necessary for communication and documentation
  • Ability and willingness to assist participants in activities of daily living
