Job Summary
We are a fast-paced, high-quality oral and maxillofacial surgery practice seeking a skilled and compassionate Oral Surgical / Dental Assistant to join our clinical team. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented,and thrives in a team orientented surgical setting. You will work alongside our surgeons to provide exceptional patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. This position requires a blend of technical proficiency, patient communication, and administrative accuracy.
General Duties
Prepare surgical rooms with necessary instruments, supplies, and sterile materials prior to proceduresAssist oral surgeons during outpatient procedures including extractions, dental implants, biopsies, and IV sedation casesMonitor and support patients during sedation and recovery, ensuring safety and comfortSterilize instruments and maintain infection control protocols in compliance with OSHA and CDC guidelinesTake diagnostic X-rays, including panoramic and periapical images, using proper radiographic techniquesProvide pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and caregiversMaintain accurate and thorough clinical documentation and charting in the practice management softwareEnsure patient consent forms are properly signed and documented prior to treatmentMaintain inventory of clinical supplies and restock surgical trays as neededCollaborate closely with front office and surgical staff to support efficient clinical operationsExhibit professionalism, empathy, and strong communication skills in patient interactionsRespond appropriately to medical emergencies under the supervision of the surgeonParticipate in continuing education and staff meetings to support practice excellence and complianceJob Qualifictions
High school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum 12 years of experience as a dental assistant or surgical assistant in a dental or oral surgery settingCertification in Dental Radiography / X-ray (Required)Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR (Required OR willing to be certified within 3 months of starting work)Familiarity with sterile techniques and surgical instrument handlingExcellent organizational and multitasking skills in a clinical environmentStrong interpersonal and communication abilities to interact with patients and team membersExperience with electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar)Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress or emergency situationsProfessional appearance and demeanorWe look forward to welcoming a dedicated professional to our team!
