Mechanic

This position is Monday-Thursday 3 :

• 00-11 : 30pm, Friday 2 : 30-11 : 00pm Hourly wage :   $26.51-29.53 This position will remain open until filled with preference given to applications received by Friday, September 26 at 4 : 30pm  Mechanic Department :              Maintenance Reports To :                Maintenance Supervisor Revision Date :           February 2020 Primary Objective of Position The Mechanic is responsible for mechanical repair and maintenance of CNG, diesel, and gasoline transit vehicles and other mechanical equipment.
• Essential Functions of the Position Essential duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.
• The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or logical to the position.   Responsible for performing mechanical repairs of Metro Bus property Overhaul and repair CNG, diesel and gas motors, brakes, air units, electrical systems, hydraulic / kneeling systems, heating / air conditioning systems, remote heating units, and other mechanical equipment Diagnose operating difficulties and make repairs on a variety of hydraulic, engine, air and electrical systems Perform road calls and / or switch out buses when equipment fails.
• Trouble shoot, fix and repair buses roadside Occassionally fabricate parts no longer available and periodic welding and iron work Monitor driver write-ups in computerized fleet maintenance system and perform repairs   Responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of Metro Bus property Performs scheduled preventative maintance and repairs on CNG, dielse and gasoline transit vehicles Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on Metro Bus facilities, grounds and equipment Properly complete maintenance records and forms   Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains respectful working relationships with coworkers and customers in carrying out job functions   Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices Knows and follows safety rules and guidelines as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work When potentially unsafe conditions are observed, makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner Performs other duties and activities as assigned Minimum Qualifications The job requires a two (2) year degree or certification from a technical or community college or two (2) years of experience in automotive or heavy duty vehicle mechanics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have, or be able to obtain within 90 days, a valid Class B Minnesota Driver License, with passenger and air brake endorsements, and current DOT medical certification.
