Assistant Manager Trades Shop (2nd Shift)

Supervises a second-shift crew, overseeing repairs and maintenance of university facilities or property which require specialized training in a skilled trade. Directly supervises at least seven (7) classified staff. Hours for this position are Wednesday through Saturday, 3 : 00 pm to 1 : 00 am.

Essential Duties :

  • Supervises seven (7) or more skilled trade personnel in shop; assists in enforcing policies and procedures; establishes schedules and assigns tasks; monitors and evaluates performance; makes recommendations regarding discipline.
  • Assists with overseeing shop operations; sets priorities; prepares cost estimates,
  • Reviews completed work of employees and contractors; ensures that any needed changes or corrections are made.
  • Researches and evaluates new materials and equipment; makes recommendations regarding purchases.
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; reorders as necessary; maintains department records and work orders.
  • May assist in maintenance and repair work as needed.
  • Participates in selection and onboarding of new team members

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Requires 18 months training beyond high school in a skilled trade and four years of experience in that trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Driver's license required.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of the procedures and equipment of a particular skilled trade
  • Supervisory skills
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and / or mechanical diagrams
  • CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software) experience
  • Commercial trades knowledge
  • Experience Managing / Supervising others in multiple trades.
  • Working Conditions

    Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant situations.

    A criminal background check is required. All campuses are smoke- and tobacco-free campuses.
