Position Summary
The Dental Hygienist is board certified or board eligible licensed practitioner who is responsible for providing patient care and working with health center providers and staff to ensure quality outcomes for center patients.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the removal of hard and soft deposits of stains, calculus and plaque from teeth.
- Administers preventive dental care and materials such as fluorides and sealants.
- Maintain patient confidentiality through HIPAA compliance.
- Take radiographs of patients using standard dental radiographic equipment.
- Verify patient health history and document appropriately in patients chart.
- Perform the following duties as applicable by practice and / or state laws : screen for Oral Cancer and take alginate impressions and fabricate whitening trays.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental hygiene care in outpatient settings.Knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dental hygiene as related to public health organizations and community health programs as well as current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary health care.The Dental Hygienist must be cognizant of the prevalent stressors and their impact on the patient populations in the community health center primary care settings.The individual in this position must also be aware of pressures, economic and other wise, from private, public and legislative arenas as they mold the climate in which public health agencies operate.The Dental Hygienist of the center must be able to creatively work with the Dental Director as well as other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines to achieve maximal productivity and programmatic effectiveness while continuously promoting the growth and development of the dental clinic, and displaying good work judgment.Education and Experience
Unrestricted license to practice dental hygiene in the Commonwealth of Virginia.Cannot be sanctioned under Medicaid or Medicare.Current CPR (BLS) certificate required.Physical Requirements
Prolonged sitting or standing may be required.Those physical movements and the degree of mobility normally associated with the practice of primary care dentistry will be performed on a repetitive basis.The ability to distinguish letters and symbols, as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, and copiers is required.Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered.Work Location
