The laboratory intern will be responsible for assisting research and mixture designs related to asphalt mixtures and binders at the Heritage Research Group.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the pavement, binder, and mixture related research and design initiatives within HRG.
  • Aggregate and asphalt mixture sampling.
  • Aggregate testing including fractionation, gradation, gravities, and other physical characteristics.
  • Mix preparation including batching.
  • Basic data analysis and support, with associated reporting.
  • Conduct bituminous specimen fabrication.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company's core values, competencies, and skills.

Education Qualifications

  • Required High School or Equivalent
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree : Current freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in civil engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, construction management, material sciences, mechanical engineering, and other related fields.
  • Experience Qualifications

  • Preferred 1+ years Laboratory experience.
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to complete basic data analysis.
  • Basic math and excel skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work within a team.
  • Interested in working with your hands and working at on-site locations.
  • Working Conditions / Physical Demands

  • Work is primarily performed in a lab setting, with occasional tasks in the field.
  • Must adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and safety goggles.
  • Mobility : Frequent standing, walking, and moving around the lab. Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Manual Dexterity : Proficiency in handling small tools and laboratory equipment.
  • Communication : Clear verbal and written communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with team members.
  • Able to work in a dusty environment, sometimes including the need for PPE (provided).
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
