Summary

Peachtree Academy is seeking an innovative and engaging elementary special ed teacher for a position with exceptional hours.The ideal candidate would be responsible for developing an engaging lesson plan to be implemented in the classroom based on education guidelines and student skill set. Managing the day-to-day operational activities of the 8 student classroom would be a primary responsibility. A strong knowledge of children's cognitive, social, and emotional development is ideal for maximum class learning and will help ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment. This position is in a Private Christian school and students are selected through an application process. Several of the students are on the spectrum better working close to grade level and come to school each day with an ABA therapist to assist them. The ideal teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively collaborate with other Elementary teachers and specialty teachers for PE, Art, and Music. We encourage parents to partner for their child to reach the highest level of success. Parents must volunteer at least 10 hours per school year. Duties

  • Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Lead by example through excellent language skills, modeling and coaching.
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Take excellent notes about student areas of improvement and skills that need to be strengthened.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and ensuring each students safety and security.
  • Supervise student progress by working with the ABA Therapists to maximize learning.
  • Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
  • Maintain your personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate would have at least a Bachelor's or Master's degree in early childhood education,Elementary education, Child and family studies, or a related field
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team approach.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must pass a National background check
