Job Overview
Responsible for substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the US and internationally. Main responsibilities include creating electrical protection & control and physical layout design deliverables. Projects vary in size, complexity, and voltage class, from small distribution upgrades to large transmission projects. This role influences the resiliency, reliability, and economic operation of the electric grid.
Key Responsibilities
- Design high voltage (13kV-500kV) electrical substations.
- Prepare proposals, scope development, conceptual designs, and execution plans.
- Estimate engineering costs and labor, develop schedules.
- Design physical substation layouts, including yard plans, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, raceways, power systems, and bills of material.
- Develop protection and control schemes, including panel arrangements, schematics, wiring, and relay panels.
- Conduct engineering studies and prepare reports (grounding, lightning, load studies).
- Specify equipment for procurement and factory testing.
- Coordinate with other departments such as Civil / Structural, Networks, and Transmission.
- Mentor less experienced team members.
- Communicate with clients and outside personnel regularly.
- Perform quality reviews and provide field support during construction.
- Support business development and marketing efforts.
- Other duties may include relay settings, 3D design, or industry committee involvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related from an ABET-accredited program and 3+ years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of experience, consulting preferred.Strong knowledge of engineering techniques and procedures.Excellent communication skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and analysis software.Attention to detail, teamwork, organization, and problem-solving skills.Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.This job posting remains open until filled, with a minimum of 72 hours active.
