Controls Engineer

Fiber Materials Inc. (FMI) is a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. Our focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon / Carbon (C / C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips, rocket motor throats, and nozzles.

Our materials are used in groundbreaking space initiatives like the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, as well as in missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.

Your role : FMI is seeking a Controls Engineer for our Advanced Programs within R&T. As the Controls Engineer , you will design, validate, and implement automation, data collection, and process control systems to support a range of activities, from clean sheet, high-precision, multi-variate systems to existing production system retrofits. This will enable improvements in safety, quality, cost, and cycle time.

Job Responsibilities :

• Design, improve, and troubleshoot custom-built automation systems, including mechanical, software, and networking components.
• Develop, implement, and sustain policies and procedures for technical work in a production facility.
• Lead integration of new systems and automation equipment.
• Identify, design, and implement process improvements using Lean and Six Sigma tools.
• Execute technical assignments, integrating systems while adhering to strict schedules and cost considerations.
• Work with internal and external customers to develop and qualify process changes and provide technical services.
• Design and develop new equipment for future production systems, ensuring health and safety policies are integrated early on and followed.
• Apply standards to projects to ensure compliance with certification requirements in plant applications.
• Collaborate with internal and external designers, integrators, and manufacturers.
