Job Overview
The Technical Writer will serve as the documentation specialist supporting the C5ISR Center Cyber Security Directorate's Cryptographic Modernization portfolio. This role requires comprehensive expertise in developing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation for the vast inventory of cryptographic devices, operations, system fixes, and protocols within the CMB portfolio. The Technical Writer will create documentation that meets the needs of various target audiences including system administrators, operators, and developers, while ensuring compliance with NSA, NIST, IEEE and other federal standards. The position supports critical documentation efforts for HAIPE devices, CSfC solutions, key management systems, and tactical network protection technologies.
This role is contingent upon contract award , and will be a full-time position with work performed both on-site at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and remotely, with core hours Monday-Friday : 6 : 00 AM - 6 : 00 PM EST.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation specific to the vast inventory of devices within the CMB portfolio.
- Create installation guides, configuration guides, troubleshooting guides, user manuals, and API documentation for developed hardware and software.
- Ensure technical and policy documentation created or edited is accurate, clear, concise, and consistent.
- Adhere to established style guides by the C5ISR Center or specific customers.
- Improve user understanding and reduce support requests by providing comprehensive and easy-to-follow documentation.
- Develop guides, computer-based training, webpages, and other digital and print media.
- Support compliance with relevant industry standards including NSA, NIST, IEEE and other evolving standards.
- Create engaging and interactive CBT modules for INE systems and associated processes.
- Utilize multimedia elements (videos, simulations, quizzes) to enhance learning experiences.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and COMSEC teams to gather information for reporting.
- Write technical papers, reports, bulletins, and FAQs documenting T&E results and deployment decisions.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policy documentation for technical products and systems.
- Maintain proper classification markings and handle classified documentation per security requirements.

Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Computer Science, or related field.Minimum of five (5) years comprehensive technical writing experience.Experience with research and development documentation, reports, and test plans.Demonstrated experience with both unclassified and classified technical products.Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS / SCI) clearanceKnowledge of classification guidelines and document marking procedures.Understanding of NISPOM requirements for handling classified informationPreferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Technical Communication or related field.Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) certification.Experience with HAIPE, CSfC, or key management system documentation.Knowledge of INE systems and tactical network protection technologies.Familiarity with RMF and cybersecurity assessment documentation.Experience with multimedia content development and CBT creation.Understanding of NSA, NIST, and IEEE standards.Graphics design capabilities for technical illustrations.Salary Range
