Van Driver (Limited-Term)
Culver City is a Charter City incorporated in 1917, and is a destination filled with outdoor cafes, unique shops and galleries opening onto pedestrian-friendly boulevards. Culver City has a dedicated staff of approximately 800 employees with an overall operating budget of over $368 million. The City provides a full range of municipal services including Fire, Police, Housing and Human Services, Planning and Development, Public Works, Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, and Transportation.
Van Drivers are responsible for promptly and safely transporting passengers and assisting them, as needed, when entering and exiting from the van in a safe manner. This position reports to Transit Operations Manager. General duties include : driving passengers to various locations as assigned; operating a van over various routes maintaining a time schedule for completion of routes while transporting passengers in a safe manner; collecting and accounting for fares accurately; displaying a kind understanding and patient demeanor showing a sincere concern for the welfare of passengers; completing daily work reports via computer to indicate the actual work accomplished and the number of senior citizens transported, & maintaining other records as appropriate; observing safety rules and regulations; performing daily safety check of the van; preparing daily work reports using a computer.
Minimum requirements include experience transporting people in a vehicle requiring a class B driver's license. Applicants may be disqualified for any of the following reasons : a conviction record, and / or negative employment references. A criminal conviction or administrative suspension or revocation of driver's license for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Notes : A conviction shall include a plea, verdict, or finding of guilt regardless of whether sentence is imposed by the court. Positions in this job classification are considered safety sensitive under Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol regulations and are, therefore, subject to specific employment reference verifications prior to employment and random drug and alcohol screenings during the course of employment. Prior to appointment (hire), candidates must pass a pre-employment medical examination, which will include a drug screen. A positive pre-placement drug test, refusal or failure to test may result in rejection of the candidate.
A valid California Class "B" driver license with Passenger endorsement is required at time of application. Employees must be available for at-will part-time or at-will full-time work assignments and may be scheduled to work between the hours of 7 : 30 a.m. and 9 : 30 p.m., seven (7) days a week, including holidays. Over-time work assignments may be offered.
