Patient Care Technician (PCT)

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides care to patients under the direction of a physician or nursing staff.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Complete timely and accurate documentation as per Health System / affiliate policy.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients as described in unit / department-based competencies, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide care as directed to achieve desired patient outcomes for patients newborn thru geriatric.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients / clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

    • People Management Responsibilities :

    Does this position have people management responsibilities? : Yes

    Yes indicates that this position entails overseeing and guiding team members, encompassing employment decisions and / or suggestions, as well as conducting formal performance assessments.

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Certification as an MA, CNA, EMT, or HHA in the state of Kansas - including equivalent experience such as 1st trimester nursing school, etc.
  • Current BLS / CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first
  • Successful completion of on the job training for sterile technique, maintenance of sterile field and instrument care / handling (Obstetrics and Surgery)
  • Successful completion of on the job EKG and phlebotomy training (Emergency)

    • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous exposure to a medical environment.
  • Certification as a MA, CNA, EMT, or HHA in the state of Kansas
  • Phlebotomy Technician PBT (ASCP)

    • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Basic computer skills. Moderate computer skills required for Telesitter.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Possess compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.

    • Physical Requirements :

    With or without accommodation. Very Heavy Work : Occasionally exerting greater than 100 lbs - constantly exerting up to 50 lbs. 75-100% of the day may be standing or walking.
