The University of Alabama System is receiving applications for the position of University Counsel. This is an on-site position based in Birmingham on the campus of The University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB). Reporting to the General Counsel-UAB Health System, the University Counsel provides legal advice and services to the UAB Health System, its hospitals and clinics, as well as its affiliates.

Education / Training / Experience
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and strong academic credentialsMust be licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama or must become so licensed within six (6) months of hireA minimum of 10 years of relevant corporate, transactional and health care legal experienceResponsibilities
Providing legal advice and counsel, particularly in the areas of general corporate transactions and health care regulatory compliance, including HIPAA and privacy laws, fraud and abuse laws, and hospital-physician relationshipsNegotiating health care transactions and drafting and reviewing transactional documents and contractsManaging related regulatory and administrative mattersExercising subject matter expertise and working with little supervision.Assisting the Chief University Counsel and General Counsel-UAB Health System as needed, including research and drafting.Other duties as assignedSalary / Benefits / Retirement
Salary is commensurate with the skill level and years of experience of the applicant.
